The US Ambassador in Italy on a visit to the DIEF of Modena

On Friday, 1 March 2019, the US Ambassador for Italy, Mr. Lewis M. Eisenberg, with the following also the US Consul General in Florence, Mr. Benjamin V. Wohlauer, visited the Engineering Department “Enzo Ferrari” (DIEF) of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, to discover the excellences of this small University, well known worldwide for engineering studies in the field of Automotive.
It is no coincidence that the meeting aimed to present to the US delegation a whole series of interesting projects. Following a brief initial presentation in the Tecnopolo, curated by the Director of the Automotive Academy, Prof. Francesco Leali, with the collaboration of the Pro-Rector, Prof. Sergio Ferrari and the Director of the same DIEF, Prof. Massimo Borghi, both the same Automotive Academy and the MUNER project, in collaboration with the other universities of the Emilia Romagna region.

Following this, the visit to the laboratories of the DIEF, where among others, also the prototype of Maserati Quattroporte developed by the DIEF with a special software that assists the driving up to the almost complete autonomy of the vehicle. And right on the Maserati, the US delegation had a brief test of the results achieved by this technology developed in Modena.
To conclude, the visit to the various laboratories of the Automotive Academy: from the Mille Chili Lab, where the chassis of the cars are studied, to the laboratory where the engines are developed, optimizing the internal fluid dynamics, up to the driving simulator, always developed to rescue the driving of normal road cars, with a special detector and camera that studies driving behavior and monitors the clinical data of the same driver, also in this case always ready to intervene in case of need or sudden weakness of the driver.

The meeting was then concluded again within the Tecnopolo, with a buffet where the US delegation was able to taste the typical dishes of Modena, in the presence also of the Rector of UNIMORE, Prof. Angelo O. Andrisano, previously engaged in another institutional event.
