Symbol of Made in Italy, the New 500 fascinates the Land of the Rising Sun
Following Israel and Brazil, the New 500 officially debuts in Japan, continuing its global journey. During the press conference, Olivier Francois, FIAT CEO and Stellantis Global CMO, gave a speech in a video message from Casa 500 in Turin (which can be seen at this link).
The presentation of the New 500 to the Japanese press and retail network just concluded. Olivier Francois, FIAT CEO and Stellantis Global CMO, gave a speech in a video message from Casa 500, the museum which tells of the past, future, culture, and iconic nature of the brand’s most prized jewel. To date, of all the Fiat 500s sold half of them are hybrids and the other half are electric: this is a clear sign of how much the model is up-to-date and in line with an increasingly sustainable and environmentally friendly mobility.
“After its debut in Israel and Brazil, now it’s Japan’s turn to welcome the New 500 on its tour outside of Europe – remarked Olivier Francois, FIAT CEO and Stellantis Global CMO -. The New 500 is the best-selling electric city car in Europe and, furthermore, in Italy it is the best-selling electric car ever and in Germany it is the best-selling electric car after Tesla. And now I’m thrilled to see how it will be received in Japan. The Japanese market already accounts for over sixty-thousand drivers and fans of the iconic 500, even in its Abarth version. This growing community will surely value its 100% electric evolution and will even be able to appreciate it in the home of the hybrid giants.”
Designed and built in Turin, the New 500 is beautiful, connected, technologically advanced, distinctively Italian, and fun to drive. Plus, it combines a 100% electric engine, which guarantees sustainability and efficiency, with a timeless Italian look which was born in 1957 and continues to captivate millions of fans around the world. Its success is also confirmed by the 29 European awards, received from both the general public and experts from the automotive, design and lifestyle media.
In Japan, the New 500 is available with an 87 kW (118 CV) electric engine and a 42kWh lithium-Ion battery. The range is composed of two trims: the Entry in the hatchback version and the Icon available both cabrio and hatchback with premium interiors. Five liveries available: Celestial Blue, Ocean Green, Mineral Grey, Rose Gold and Ice White. The New 500 is the only electric convertible in the Japanese market.
