Russian Grand Prix – United and ready to do well in Sochi
Sochi, 26 September 2019 – Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc arrived bright and early at the Sochi Autodrom this morning, to be met by cool weather with the occasional rain shower. They had their first technical meetings, prior to the press sessions in the afternoon in the team hospitality.
Sebastian. First to talk was Vettel, fresh from his win in Singapore. “I think the result was very nice for the whole team, because the win came on a track that didn’t suit us on paper,” he began. “For me obviously, after the race in Monza, it was very positive. Now we must concentrate on this race and on the coming ones, continuing to learn more about the car and our working methods. I think our aero package worked in the best possible way in Singapore, but we also did well in terms of our teamwork, working together right from the start of practice. The result of what we did on Friday and Saturday morning then became obvious in qualifying and the race, where we managed to get all the potential out of the car.”
Charles. Next up in the interview chair was Leclerc, who began by explaining that he understood the strategy in Singapore and how the team worked in a united fashion to do the best possible. “Analysing the race it was immediately apparent to me that what we did was the only strategy that could have given the team its one-two finish. And this, as we have said many times before, is the only thing that matters,” maintained the Monegasque, who also added that he was keen to get back on track again. “In Singapore, the new aero package worked very well. I hope the whole team will do a good job again here to get the most out of the car.” Charles is not bothered by the rain.” In the few wet sessions we’ve had this season, we have always been pretty comfortable with the car, so I don’t think the weather will make much difference. I like driving in the wet.”
Programme. The cars take to the track tomorrow for free practice, at 11 and 15 local time (10 and 14 CET). On Saturday, the final free practice starts at 12 (11 CET) prior to qualifying at 15 (14 CET). The Russian Grand Prix starts at 14.10 (13.10 CET) on Sunday.
