Italian Grand Prix – Free practice 1: Charles first, Seb eighth
Monza, 6 September 2019 – Charles Leclerc drove his SF90 to the top of the time sheet in the opening free practice session for the Italian Grand Prix and team-mate Sebastian Vettel was eighth quickest at the Monza track.
Rain.It rained for the first part of the 90 minute session, so the drivers had to tackle their installation laps on full wet tyres. There were several red flags as many drivers spun off track.
Slick tyres. Towards the end, it was dry enough for slick tyres and Charles and Sebastian went out on track to set their best times. The Monegasque did 20 laps, the best in 1’27”905, while Sebastian, who opted for a more cautious approach did a 1’30”507. The second session starts at 3 pm.
