Ferrari Challenge – Rain hampers the opening day at Mugello
Mugello, 24 October 2019 – The rain proved to be unmerciful to drivers of the Ferrari Challenge which got underway at the Finali Mondiali on the Mugello circuit on October 24. On-track activities kicked off with the first Challenge Europe free practice sessions in conditions shrouded with fog. The mist, however, soon dispelled only to turn into rain which persisted throughout the sessions of, not only the Prancing Horse single-marque series, but also the XX Programmes and Corse Clienti activities too.

Fastest in the Challenge Europe free practice, in Trofeo Pirelli, was Adam Carroll (Ferrari Budapest) who registered a quickest time of 1:51.964. In Trofeo Pirelli Am, meanwhile, Emanuele Maria Tabacchi (Rossocorsa) notched up the swiftest lap with 1:53.077. The top time in the Coppa Shell class was snatched by Austrian Ernst Kirchmayr (Baron Motorsport) recording 1:53.167, while in Coppa Shell Am it was Henrik Jansen who proved quickest (1:54.499).
In Challenge North America, with a fastest time of 2:16.212, was Brian Davis (Ferrari of Palm Beach) in the Coppa Shell class. Behind, with a 0.276 deficit, was Brent Holden (Ferrari of Newport Beach), who claimed first in Trofeo Pirelli Am. The fastest in Trofeo Pirelli was Cooper MacNeil (Ferrari Westlake) with a lap time of 2:17.641, while in Coppa Shell Am, Mark Davies left his adversaries trailing with a time of 2:21.610.
Italian driver Philippe Prette (Blackbird Concessionaires HK) produced the fastest showing in the Trofeo Pirelli Am category of the Challenge Asia Pacific, stopping the watch on 2:12.130. The top Coppa Shell time was taken by Kazujuki Yamaguchi (Cornes Osaka) with 2:13.575. Shell Am sees Kenner Lau – also from the Blackbird Concessionaires team – provisionally holding pole position (2:15.449).

The second Challenge Europe free practice session saw lengthened lap times due to an even wetter track. The fastest lap in Trofeo Pirelli went to Frenchman Thomas Neubauer (Charles Pozzi – Courage) with 2:11.026. In Trofeo Pirelli Am, the Danish driver Overgaard (Forza Racing) delivered the quickest lap of 2:12.797. In Coppa Shell, Ernst Kirchmayr (Baron Motorsport) reasserted himself with a lap of 2:13.417, while in Coppa Shell Am first place went to the Swedish driver Ingvar Mattson (Scuderia Autoropa) with a 2:14.143 lap.
In Challenge North America, Dave Musial’s (Ferrari Lake Forest) 2:18.471 lap sees him grab provisional overall pole position in both the Ferrari single-marque series and Trofeo Pirelli Am class. 2.175 shy of first place in Trofeo Pirelli was Canadian Marc Muzzo (Ferrari of Ontario). Third best overall time and first in Coppa Shell Am was the 2:24.183 lapped by Mark Davies (Wide World Ferrari). Following behind was Brazilian Claude Senhoreti (Ferrari of Ft. Lauderdale) recording 2:25.754, enough to claim first spot in Coppa Shell.
Likewise, in the second Challenge Asia Pacific free practice session, the fastest lap of (2:13.674) was the work of Philippe Prette (Pirelli Am). David Dicker (Continental Cars Auckland) prevailed in Coppa Shell with 2:15.596, while in Coppa Shell Am it was Chinese driver Ray Wu (Blackbird Concessionaires HK) to register the fastest time on the stopwatch at 2:17.624.
Friday schedule.
Ferrari Challenge’s Friday activities get underway with qualifying for North America from 09.00. The morning will also include the sessions that will determine the starting grid for both the Asia Pacific and Europe championships. The racing gets the green light from 12.55 with the following order: American single-marque series, then Asia Pacific, with Race-1 for the Old Continent up next. The proceedings will be interspersed with activities from XX Programmes, F1 Clienti and Corse Clienti.
