Ferrari Challenge Europe – Schirò and Kirchmayr do the double at Brno

Entertainment and emotion on the second day of racing at the Brno circuit, which witnessed an extraordinary double triumph for the returning Niccolò Schirò (Rossocorsa) and Ernst Kirchmayr (Baron Motorsport), giving a notable boost to the pair in their respective standings, as the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli season heads into what promises to be an enthralling second half. In AM class, Ange Barde (SF Côte d’Azur Cannes) in the Trofeo Pirelli and Willem Van Der Vorm (Scuderia Monte-Carlo) in the Coppa Shell, once again ruled the roost on the winding curves of the Moravian track.

Trofeo Pirelli.  The gripping head-to-head between Niccolò Schirò, on his return, and the leader of the general standings Michelle Gatting (Scuderia Niki – Iron Lynx) once again played out over the spectacular rises and falls, and around the demanding chicanes of the Brno circuit. The decisive blow was dealt halfway through the race, with Schirò overtaking wide at the curve, setting himself up nicely to then let fly towards the finish-line, to subsequently take the win. Runner-up spot went to home champion Matùš Výboh (Scuderia Praha), able to outflank the Danish champion Michelle Gatting who nevertheless retains the leadership in the championship standings.

Trofeo Pirelli.  A double-win also in AM class, with Ange Barde replicating the success of Race 1 thanks to a sumptuous overtaking move mid-race against the young Danish pole-sitter Christian Brunsborg (Formula Racing). There were plenty of heated battles to the rear of the leaders with Roger Grouwels (Kroymans – Race Art) coming off best to make it onto the third step of the podium.

Coppa Shell. A decisive and determined Ernst Kirchmayr was not going to let the rain unnerve him, that had fallen just minutes prior to the race-start. He would go on to turn the morning’s pole position into a second win of the weekend, fending off tenaciously the American champion James Weiland (Rossocorsa). Also on the podium was the ever-competitive “Alex Fox” (SF Grand Est Mulhouse).

Coppa Shell AM. Willem Van Der Vorm completed a commanding weekend in the Czech Republic with another triumph in Race 2 and looks set to become one of the key protagonists in the championship. Behind him, a superb second place for the ever-improving Paolo Scudieri (SA.MO.CAR.), while rookie Alexander Nussbaumer (Gohm Motorsport) claimed the third step of the podium.

Schedule. After the weekend on Czech soil, the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli is set to hold the forthcoming fourth round in Spain, with the event at the Valencia circuit from June 19-20.
