Menu dei Motori 2019 – Number 23: The Happy New YEAR!

New age and new goals to the future

It seems incredible, but we are already here, you read (I hope) and I write this third editorial for the 3rd issue of “Menu dei Motori”, since it has been entrusted to the new “American / Modena” management of “PIANETA MODENA “.
This year there has been a lot of talk about the crisis, at all levels, but above all it has been said for some years now that the crisis is mainly affecting print media, literally “overwhelmed” by the internet. And then again that the new generations read little and only on the internet, to the point that we begin to have news of newsstands that close or that transform the business.
All true, especially with regard to newspapers, whose news is always “burned” by the internet and partly also for “magazines” with weekly or monthly intervals!
But this is certainly not the case with books, especially in history, or in the specialized press of the sector or in the yearbooks themselves! Which in this case become even more precious and collectible, as timeless objects, silent but reliable (if well done) witnesses of history, culture and everything that makes knowledge! And so then, not only collectors and enthusiasts in general, but also the young people themselves, those “hungry” for culture and knowledge, current and historical (and they are not as few as you want us to believe), still feel the need to “put aside” that knowledge that on the internet is a continuous river that flows impetuously, but that leaves nothing to posterity, to history: everything is burnt and then forgotten within a few weeks or months.
Menu dei Motori has obviously adapted and still intends to make the best use of modern medias: new website updated hour by hour, personalized videos and all poured out also on social media, but this does not mean that it intends to give up that tangible and lasting something that, now almost 25 years ago he started making, partly even ahead of his time!
It is clear that Menu dei Motori, which is not a normal magazine, but neither is it a real book (although it is not said that in the future we will not make any, especially after the happy experience of the special dedicated to the 50th Lamborghini, printed on licensed even in Japan). MdM was born as a “Motor Menu” and soon evolved into a YEARBOOK. A yearbook that has become more and more valuable every year, both in terms of format, materials and attention to creation, but above all in terms of content which, both in terms of current events, novelties and “behind the scenes”, especially as regards the actual story, tends to offer more and more but above all in an increasingly exclusive, selected, original and original way!
This is proof of this issue that you have in your hands: perhaps the richest and most cured of the entire collection (and there are already 23 of them). A rare but above all “precious” object, because it is the “witness” exclusive to motoring events that are often under-tracked or in any case never really gutted! As in the case of Horacio Pagani’s motoring past, who in 2019 celebrated the 20th anniversary of his first hypercar, the Zonda, but who exclusively told us the true story starting from his first projects, first in Argentina and then Lamborghini style! Or as in the case of the Scuderia Ferrari, which celebrated 90 years in 2019 since its birth, when Ferrari itself did not exist yet (in Maranello) and Enzo Ferrari therefore had its drivers race with the Alfa Romeos managed and assisted by the Scuderia Ferrari in Modena. In this case, after an explanatory video published on the site and then also spread on social media, we preferred to manage the story for exclusive images on this yearbook. The same that we also did with De Tomaso: in 2019, in addition to the presentation of the new Hypercar in a limited series P72, it also ran the 60th anniversary of the foundation and therefore, in addition to presenting you with the latest addition, we have once again retraced the whole history for exclusive historical images!
Unlike the speech relating to MASERATI for which, once again, to best honor the story and celebrate the 80th anniversary of the first historic victor at the Indianapolis 500 (1939), we had the pleasure and honor of using of the collaboration of Ing. ALFIERI MASERATI, son of ERNESTO, who was then the one of the founding brothers of the famous Casa del Tridente, who designed the Maserati single-seater in full which triumphed at Indy!
And that’s not all: among the absolute novelties, the “first” of an incredible design prototype, made by a well-known designer of the “Land of Motors” who, after some videos published on the web, gave us an interview so much interesting as unedited!
New FERRARI, ALFA ROMEO, MASERATI models (for which there is no shortage of the usual TEST DRIVE), PAGANI, LAMBORGHINI, BUGATTI and the aforementioned DE TOMASO, complete a picture of truly rich content! But still the undersigned was not enough: the visit of the US Ambassador to Italy to the Engineering Department “Enzo Ferrari” of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia was still not enough. Finally, unfortunately 2019 was also the year in which NIKI LAUDA left us and so, without wanting to repeat a story well known to everyone, I preferred to remember it by publishing my memories as of a very young fan at the time, well accompanied by as many images, objects and drawings that are truly personal and therefore also unique, to symbolize the importance that the Austrian driver has had in the history of sports car racing, but above all, to also remember how his great “Ferrari Heart” actually has “Infected” incurably, not only the undersigned, but I guess by many other fans, in fact marking an era!
Enjoy the reading !
